I had to reread the novel in order to start the series anew and to be devefaux to express my opinion properly.

Every time she says something, it’s like, “Ranulf turned and gazed at her with a fierce gaze. As it is, the thing I remember most is that the Black Lyon is not shy about abusing the heroine.

You have Lyonene who falls in love with Ranulf and are betrothed. Now, I’ve never lived in the Dark Ages, but I’m assuming that people had to grow up fast back then, and her uber innocence didn’t feel genuine. No shades of gray here Women are treated harshly and this is portrayed in the story. She has a large extended family and is the elder sister of four brothers.

This is the prequel to her Montgomery Series and their Taggert cousins. I think that this use of a naive heroine goes sort of hand in hand with the age in which this was written, so I did expect it to a certain extent, but I’ve also read it much better done.


This story takes the reader on some wide swings from wedding night rape to a loving and attentive husband though he remains arrogant to the end. I probably shouldn’t call him a hero either he was more a villain, or at least had a multiple personality blwck.
